Drunk Driver Strikes Volkswagen Head-On

Before the days of short-form video content, one of the most popular forms of online entertainment was top ten lists; lists like these also used to appear in newspapers and magazines, but on the Internet, there was room for even more of them. People who got paid to create web content, which in those days usually meant writing, would produce lists of the top ten anything, and at least in the United States, “Top Ten States for X” was a popular theme for such lists. Then and now, New Mexico consistently ranks in the top ten for scenic beauty, pleasant climate, affordability, and especially for the intersection of affordability and artistic flair. New Mexico is a great place to retire or to escape the corporate rat race.

On the surface, New Mexico could not be more different from South Carolina and Wyoming, but like these other affordable states, New Mexico consistently ranks in the top ten for DWI crashes per capita. Of course, New Mexico has recently implemented tougher penalties for DWI convictions, in an effort to deter drunk driving. This may lead to fewer DWI accidents, but it does not lessen the injuries of people who have already been hit by drunk drivers. If you have been injured in a car accident where the driver was under the influence of alcohol, contact a Santa Fe car accident lawyer.

Driver Tried to Flee on Foot After Collision That Left Two People Hospitalized

On the last Thursday in August 2026, during evening rush hour, a GMC pickup truck was traveling south on Coors Boulevard. Near Roberson Lane NW in Albuquerque, it crossed the center line, veering into the northbound lanes. While it was going the wrong way in the northbound lanes, it collided head-on with a Volkswagen.

The driver of the Volkswagen suffered injuries serious enough to require hospitalization, as did a passenger in the pickup truck. Witnesses called the police, but the driver of the pickup truck, who was not seriously injured, tried to walk away from the scene of the accident. Police who responded to the call stopped him and arrested him. They suspect that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Both of the people injured in the accident are expected to survive. As for the at-fault driver, he is facing criminal charges for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury. He is also facing charges for DWI. Both injured people have the right to file personal injury claims against the at-fault driver, even if he does not get a conviction in criminal court in connection with this accident. If the at-fault driver got drunk at a bar before driving, the injured people may also be able to file a dram shop liability claim against the bar.
