Drugged Driver Crashes Into Albuquerque House

A car crashing through the wall of a house should be a never event. It happens sometimes in movies for a shocking comic or dramatic effect; the audience is surprised because it seems so impossible, and besides, what you are seeing on your screen is not a real house or storefront collapsing, but rather a custom-built set. When a car strikes a building or any stationary object of substantial size, the worst damage is usually reserved for the car. The owners of the structure have the right to sue the driver who caused the accident, but the claim is usually for property damage only.

Accidents have occurred, though, where a car striking a house injured or killed a person inside. These events are so unlikely that they can only occur when the driver is egregiously negligent; the driver is usually traveling at an excessive speed and is usually under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you got injured when a car struck your house while you were inside, contact a Santa Fe car accident lawyer.

Albuquerque Man Dies After Driver Under the Influence of Methamphetamine and Other Drugs Crashes Into His Living Room

For most people, the week between Christmas and New Year’s is a time when celebrations blend into each other; even mundane days feel wondrous during the holiday season. For Brian Peterson’s family, though, the last week of the year is a time of mourning. On December 27, 2023, Peterson died in an accident that never should have happened. One moment, Peterson and his wife Jean were sitting in their living room, and the next moment, their whole world turned upside down.

Mark Castello was driving at a high speed on the residential street where the Peterson family lives.  Jean Peterson and her daughter Tiffany posted a video on YouTube in which they described the events that happened next. Castello lost control of the car and crashed into the family’s garage, where Peterson’s car was parked. He crashed through the garage door and struck the rear of Peterson’s car, propelling it forward. The car in the garage crashed through the living room wall and struck Brian Peterson, crushing him underneath the car. He was still alive when first responders arrived, but he died of his injuries a short time later.

Castello, 62, suffered minor injuries in the accident and is currently facing criminal charges for causing the accident. He had a history of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and New Mexico had revoked his driver’s license. He admitted to smoking cannabis and methamphetamine before the drive that claimed Brian Peterson’s life. He also said that he takes prescription opioids for pain management, but a media post about the incident did not indicate whether he was under the influence of opioids at the time of the accident.
